Product Traceability

Ensure Product Traceability and Track Expiration Dates
Being required to track products as a Food Distributor or Manufacturer is not just good practice, since the "The Food Safety Modernization Act" was signed on January 4, 2011, it's the law. Being able to manage specific inventory to ensure it does not expire is paramount and it's an issue that can not be handled in a non-food specific distribution system or accounting package.

FDS can help with potential product recalls and tracking product expiry dates by:

  • Providing the ability to enter specific lot numbers of products
  • Knowing the location or usage of each traceable product
  • Providing information to easily recall suspect products
  • Knowing when a date sensitive item is due to expire

Not having the ability to trace products or know when product is expiring could have economic consequences as product that is not suspect may need to be removed and product that expires will need to be discarded.

FDS has reviewed guidelines from the FDA and CFIA and other regulatory agencies and have been given permission to use their information to develop a set of Food Recall Plan Templates for the Food Distribution and Food Manufacturing industry.
